Keeping up the reading habit - Local Library and Kids News Book Club

Dear Families

Keeping up the reading habit in the holidays is to be encouraged, and when you need to change your reading material it is time to visit local library.
There are many activities available over the holiday period - check out the Kids Corner library - kids-corner  as well as the school holiday activities: library - whats-on -school-holiday-activities

Kids News is also offering a Book Club

They have kick-started the club with five great titles for students.
1. His Name was Walter by Emily Rodda
2. Ice Wolves by Amie Kaufman
3. Barney and the Secret of the French Spies by Jackie French
4. Funny Kid Prank Wars by Matt Stanton,
5. The Girl, and the Dog and the Writer in Rome by Katrina Nannestad.

Each month They’ll add a new book to the club, allowing all children to read the first three chapters FREE.

For those students who join the book club and become a member, they can purchase the book at a special discount price when we email a unique discount code at the end of each month.
·       Members will also have additional chances to enter competitions, read author interviews and other cool stuff.
·       Membership is FREE but requires parental consent (there is a link to the parental consent form on each book listing).

Farewell and Thank you Year 5

What a fabulous way to spend our last day together in Year 5. There were fun activities at Flying Fox Park after which we returned to school for lots of tasty treats for lunch. Thank you, parents, for providing this delicious spread. Thank you, also, to those parents who came in to help set up the table and clear away afterwards.

Thank you, Year 5, for being such an enthusiastic and vibrant year group. We have really enjoyed teaching you and it has been very rewarding to see you grow as learners and define yourselves as individuals throughout the year. Thank you very much for the beautiful flowers and the generous gift you gave to us today. We were very touched by your kindness and by the lovely messages written by yourselves and your parents in the card.

Thank you, parents, for being so supportive of Year 5 in all areas of school life. Whilst some areas of your support are visible, we are also most appreciative of your support in areas which may seem less visible, but which have greatly assisted us in strengthening our students in all of the five R's.
We wish you all a very happy Christmas.

Information for the last week of school - Next week!

Dear parents,

Next week is the last week of school. It's hard to believe the school year is already coming to a close!

Hilary and I have had such a wonderful year teaching Year 5 and thank you for your support.

Here are some dates and times for the happenings of next week:

Monday 2/12: Regular school day

Tuesday 3/12: Regular school day

Wednesday 4/12: Last day at school - Class Party Day
Students will wear their sports uniform and their coloured sports shirts. All classes in K-6 will be spending the morning in Winnererremy Bay and will return to school for our class parties in the valley. We ask that any parents who are volunteering their time to help with the set-up of our party to please arrive at school by 12.
We will then finish the day with the traditional Year 6 Bell Ringing ceremony at 2:00pm in the hall. Students will be dismissed at regular bell times.
Your child would have brought home a note with the food/item they have volunteered to bring to share at our party.

Thursday 5/12: 3-6 Presentation Day - Miramare gardens, 48 Myoora Rd, Terrey Hills
Please note: The following information has been sent to you via email but here is an excerpt:

If we don't see you before the end of the school year, we wish you and your families a merry Christmas and an enjoyable holiday!

Warm regards,
Sophie & Hilary

Year 5 make an impressive donation

We were proud to donate $1000 today to the Happy Days Cambodian Village School. It was so special to have Mike Pawley personally accept our donation and share with us how our money will impact the lives of the students at the school.
Many of the students don't have shoes and walk for many kilometers to school each day. Our funds will purchase bikes for 7 students of the school.
Thank you to the parents and friends of Year 5 for supporting us and helping us to make a difference in the lives of others.
